COVID-19, Influenza, and RSV Wastewater Monitoring in the U.S. | Week of April 11, 2026

Summary: Week of 4/11/26

Biobot’s national network shows that the three major respiratory viruses—SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and RSV—are all declining across the U.S. But that doesn’t mean the respiratory threat has disappeared. Human metapneumovirus (HMPV), another respiratory pathogen that can make people sick, is still climbing. We’ve been watching it for months, and the latest data show it hasn’t hit its seasonal peak. It’s a good reminder that the respiratory season doesn’t always end when the headline viruses start to fall.

The Bottom Line: While the major respiratory viruses are declining, the virus season is not over. Flu B, RSV, and HMPV are all circulating at high levels and for people at higher risk of severe illness—older adults, young children, and those who are pregnant or with underlying health conditions—it’s still a good time to consider added protections, especially in crowded indoor settings or before seeing vulnerable family members.

Footnotes:
We continue to monitor the evolving H5N1 influenza virus situation, and can now test samples specifically for H5 (including H5N1) — please reach out to hello@biobot.io if interested. A quick reminder that Biobot’s influenza A assay described in this report includes the H5N1 influenza subtype, which is an influenza A virus, but does not distinguish between the different subtypes of influenza A (e.g. H5N1 vs H1N1). We will share any important updates as we have them.

Wastewater data from Biobot Analytics for RSV, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2 are through April 4, 2026 (MMWR week 13).
